A COD confirmation app checks that a cash-on-delivery order is real before you ship it, so fewer parcels come back as RTO. On Shopify India they work through four channels: an OTP at checkout, a WhatsApp message with Confirm/Cancel buttons, an IVR call ("press 1 to confirm"), or an AI voice call that talks to the customer.

Most comparisons list apps by star rating. This one compares them by channel, because the channel decides what a confirmation can actually catch. Every app below was checked on its live Shopify App Store listing on 25 October 2026; where a listing doesn't state something, the table says "not listed" rather than guessing.

The short answer

If most of your RTO comes from fake numbers, an OTP at checkout is the cheapest filter. If it comes from orders nobody meant to accept, wrong addresses and customers who aren't home, you need a conversation before dispatch: a WhatsApp reply catches some of it, a phone call catches more. Many brands use both: OTP at checkout, then a call before packing.

Best by use case

Best to stop fake numbers at checkout: an OTP app (COD King, Cashfree CODFIRM)

An OTP proves the number works before the order exists. It's cheap and fast, and it filters bots and typos. It can't tell you whether a real person with a real number will accept the parcel. COD King also offers partial COD (an advance payment), which filters low-intent orders further.

Best low-cost confirmation for smartphone-heavy audiences: WhatsApp (Shiprocket Engage, Konfirm)

A message with Confirm/Cancel buttons is cheap and familiar, and works well when most customers reply. Its limits: a tap isn't a conversation, customers on shared or feature phones don't see it, and a "no reply" leaves you guessing. Shiprocket Engage also verifies addresses and nudges COD to prepaid, which suits brands already shipping with Shiprocket.

Best simple automated call: IVR (Hillteck, IVRSolutions)

A recorded call with "press 1 to confirm" reaches people without smartphones and gets a clear yes or no. It can't answer a question, catch a wrong address, or hear "I never ordered this". Hillteck combines IVR with WhatsApp and has the most reviews of the call-based apps.

Best when you need a real conversation before dispatch: AI voice (Callfox)

An AI voice call talks like a person: it confirms the order, answers "kab tak aayega?", reads a new address back to the customer to check it, and files "maine ye order kiya hi nahi" as a cancellation instead of shipping it. It costs more per order than a message, and it only counts calls that are answered. It suits brands whose RTO is mostly no-intent orders, wrong addresses and customers who aren't home. If your losses are mostly fake numbers, start with OTP.

Pricing, honestly

The listings mix models: per order (Shiprocket Engage, CODFIRM), per message (COD King), per month with a quota (Konfirm), and per minute of answered call (Callfox). Compare them on cost per confirmed order, not cost per message: a cheap message that isn't read confirms nothing. Our AI vs human calling cost breakdown does that maths for calls, and the RTO calculator shows what each avoided return is worth to you. For context, published RTO rates on COD in India cluster around a quarter of orders; sources on our COD & RTO benchmarks page.

How to choose

  1. Find where your RTO comes from. Pull last month's RTO reasons from your courier: fake numbers, refusals, "customer not available", address issues.
  2. Match the channel to the cause. OTP for fake numbers; a conversation for refusals, addresses and availability.
  3. Insist on Shopify tags. If the outcome isn't on the order, your packing team won't use it.
  4. Check language. If your customers are outside metros, a Hindi or Hinglish call or message matters more than a feature list.
  5. Test on your own orders for two weeks and compare RTO before and after.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best COD confirmation app for Shopify in India?

It depends on where your returns come from. OTP apps such as COD King and Cashfree CODFIRM stop fake numbers at checkout; WhatsApp apps such as Shiprocket Engage and Konfirm are a low-cost confirmation; IVR apps such as Hillteck give a clear yes or no by phone; an AI voice call such as Callfox holds a real conversation and catches wrong addresses and no-intent orders.

Is WhatsApp or a phone call better for COD confirmation?

WhatsApp is cheaper and works when customers reply. A call reaches customers without smartphones, gets an answer in real time, and can check the address and handle questions, so it catches more of the returns that come from intent and address problems.

Does OTP verification stop RTO?

It stops orders with fake or mistyped numbers. It doesn't tell you whether a customer with a working number will accept the parcel, so it's usually paired with a confirmation before dispatch.

Do these apps tag orders in Shopify?

Hillteck, IVRSolutions, Konfirm and Callfox list order tagging. For the others, the listing doesn't say; check before installing, because tags are how your team knows which orders to pack.

Which COD confirmation apps speak Hindi?

Callfox calls in Hindi, Hinglish and English. COD King lists Hindi among its languages. The other listings above only state English.

Hear an AI confirmation call on your own phone.

Callfox calls your COD customers in Hindi, Hinglish or English and tags the order in Shopify. Free to install, 30 free minutes.
